Most high school dropouts fail at least 25% of their ninth grade courses, while only 8% of high school completers do so (Letgers & Kerr, 2001).
Approximately one-third of the nation’s recent high school dropouts never were promoted beyond ninth grade (Neild, 2009).
Every percentage point of increase in a student’s attendance decreases that student’s odds of repeating 9th grade by 5% (Neild, 2009).
